Cmdr. Sarah A. Sherwood

NIOC Bahrain CommanderCmdr. Sarah A. Sherwood, a native of Wilton, Conn., is a 2001 graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics.
 
Her career as a surface warfare officer includes assignments aboard USS Oldendorf (DD-972), USS Fletcher (DD 992), and Destroyer Squadron 21 embarked on USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Her shore assignments include policy analyst, Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Division (OPNAV N3/N5); protocol officer, Commander, U.S. Naval Central Command; and flag aide, deputy commander, U.S. Naval Central Command.

After transitioning to intelligence, she served as the economic intelligence analyst, Commander International Security Assistant Forces Afghanistan; assistant intelligence officer, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); chief of intelligence plans, China Division, Pacific Intelligence Operations Center, US Pacific Command; defense fellow for Senator Claire McCaskill; deputy executive assistant for Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (N2N6); and Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea. Concurrent with her role as chief of intelligence plans, she served as executive officer for Navy Element, Pacific Joint Intelligence Operations Center.
 
She holds an MBA in International Finance from University of Maryland and is a graduate of the Naval War College’s distance Joint Professional Military Education program.
 
Cmdr. Sherwood is currently serving as the commanding officer, U.S. Navy Information Operations Command, Bahrain.
 
She is the recipient of the Rear Admiral Thomas Brook’s Intelligence Junior Officer of the Year Afloat. Her decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1), Meritorious Service Medal (2), Joint Service Commendation Medal (1), Navy Commendation Medal (5), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (1), and several unit and service awards.
