Raising Awareness - Suicide Prevention Month
20 September 2024
Suffolk, Va. --
September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, kicking off a year-long campaign dedicated to raising awareness, fostering connection, and spreading hope throughout our force. This year's initiative builds on ongoing efforts to advance the Secretary of Defense’s suicide prevention strategy, focusing on five key areas: creating a supportive environment, tackling stigma and barriers to care, updating and modernizing training, and promoting a culture of safety. These efforts are designed to address both foundational and systemic risk factors while strengthening protective measures to eliminate suicide within our ranks and the broader military community.
The Department of Defense's theme for this year is “Joining Your Fight: Connect to Protect,” while the Department of the Navy’s theme is “Your Quality of Service Matters”.
