Capt. Paul Lashmet is a native of Illinois and was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is the acting director for Navy Information Forces (NAVIFOR) West.

Capt. Lashmet graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in English (with merit) and was commissioned as an ensign (special duty cryptology) in 1998. He also attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, and in 2005 was awarded an M.S. in electrical engineering. While at the Postgraduate School, he earned the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Award for exceptional performance in Electronic Systems Engineering. He is also recent graduate of the Air War College and a member of the Cyber Research Task Force. The topic of his research was the implication of a standing Defense Support to Civilian Authorities (DSCA) request for cyber defense of critical infrastructure and key resources.

Capt. Lashmet’s previous tours include duty with Naval Security Group Activity in Yokosuka, Japan, as a direct support officer, Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Fort Meade, Maryland, as an operations officer within Musketeer and as the Navy manpower manager aboard USS Essex (LHD 2) as the cryptologic division officer, Task Force 70/Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5 as the cryptologic resource coordinator and deputy assistant chief of staff for intelligence, and U.S. Cyber Command as the lead operational planner and division chief for global operations and planning. He also served as the officer in charge, Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Capt. Lashmet’s command tour was as the 13th commanding officer of NIOC Pensacola, home of all five of the Navy’s cyber combat support teams, three of the Navy’s cyber protection teams, and Commander, Task Group 103.

Capt. Lashmet wears both the Information Dominance Warfare pin and Surface Warfare pin, the latter earned while serving onboard USS Essex, forward deployed to the Western Pacific.

Capt. Lashmet has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (second award), Meritorious Service Medal (second award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (fourth award), and numerous unit and campaign medals.
