Capt. Chris Kopach received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Union College and was commissioned via the NROTC program in 1993.

His first assignment was at Naval Space Command in Dahlgren, Virginia. As the fleet support division Officer he qualified as space watch officer for U.S. Space Command’s Alternate Space Surveillance Center, responsible for threat detection, space object monitoring and U.S. space shuttle support.

In January 1997, Capt. Kopach was assigned to DIA’s Central MASINT Technology Coordination Office as an intelligence capabilities requirements officer. His next assignment was to the Joint Analysis Center in Molesworth, England, first as a MASINT collections officer and then qualifying as theater Indications and warning watch officer. In 2002, he reported as the targeting officer with U.S. 7th Fleet  staff embarked on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. In 2005, Capt. Kopach was assigned to the staff of U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii as the fleet targeting officer. Concurrently, he was assigned as a core member of JTF-519, U.S. Pacific Command’s response force
 
From 2007 to early 2009, Capt. Kopach served as assistant intelligence officer aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).  In 2009 he reported to Special Operations Command Central as the intelligence operations branch  chief. He deployed in 2010 to Iraq as the J2 director of intelligence for Joint Forces Special Operations Component Command-Iraq (JFSOCC-I). Upon redeployment, he served as SOCCENT’s intelligence plans branch chief from December 2010 until January 2012. Capt. Kopach then served as maritime intelligence operations center director and assistant N2 for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet. From 2014 to 2015, Capt. Kopach attended the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy at Fort McNair and received a Master’s of Science degree in defense resourcing.  

In July 2015, he assumed the responsibilities as the chief of targets and GEOINT for U.S. Central Command until August 2017. From August 2017 through June 2019, Capt. Kopach served as the director of Information Warfare for Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Command.

In August 2019, he reported aboard Naval Information Warfare Training Group (NIWTG) Norfolk as the executive officer and in October 2019, he became the deputy commander, NIWTG Headquarters. In July 2020, he assumed the title of commander, NIWTG Headquarters which is responsible for three subordinate commands, two detachments and two reserve commands.   
 
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (2), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal (3), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Air Force Achievement Medal.
