Senior Chief Cryptologic Technician Technical Stephen J Pinell

Senior Enlisted Leader, Naval Information Warfare Training Group (NIWTG) Norfolk

20 September 2020 Senior Chief Cryptologic Technician Technical Stephen J. Pinell, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, enlisted in the Navy in 1999. He holds an Associate’s Degree in General Studies earned in 2014 from the American Military University. Senior Chief Petty Officer Pinell completed Electronic Warfare Technician “A” School in January of 2000 prior to entering the fleet as an electronic warfare technician seaman. 
Senior Chief Pinell’s first sea tour, from 2000-2002, was as an Electronic Warfare Operator in USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6).  His next assignment was as an information warfare planner in Fleet Information Warfare Center Detachment San Diego from 2002-2005.  He later served as the Intelligence Department leading chief petty officer (LCPO) aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) from 2009-2012. His most recent sea tour was at Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 in Norfolk as the staff information warfare officer and staff tactical action officer.
Ashore, from 2006-2008, Senior Chief Pinell was assigned to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Colorado in Aurora as the operational electronic intelligence watch lead and watch floor superintendent. Most recently ashore, he served as the tactical senior signals intelligence coordinator for the National Security Operation Center; lead technical electronic intelligence instructor and electronic intelligence training standards and compliance program manager for the National Security Agency’s Associate Directorate for Education and Training from 2012 to 2015 at NIOC Maryland in onboard Fort George W. Meade.

Senior Chief Pinell is currently serving as the senior enlisted leader for Naval Information Warfare Training Group (NIWTG) Norfolk in Virginia
Senior Chief Pinell’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
