Cmdr. Brian Tyler

Cmdr. Tyler is a native of Alabama. He graduated from the University of The South (Sewanee, Tenn.) in 2001 with a Bachelor of Art in Philosophy. He received his Master of Science Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Information Operations and a Space Systems Certification. He has completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I and II.
His operational assignments include serving as Ordnance Officer on board USS Normandy (CG 60) where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; Training Officer for USS Bataan (LHD 5) where his deployments included PANAMEX (Operating with Central America Naval Forces) and humanitarian support for Hurricane Katrina aftermath; Combat System Officer for the USS Independence (LCS 2) where he completed the ship’s first deployment as a participant in the 2014 RIM of Pacific Exercise.
His shore assignments include Flag Aide to the Director of Next Generation Enterprise Networks; Executive Assistant to OPNAV N2/N6; and Officer in Charge for Communications Security Material Issuing Office (CMIO).
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, 2014 SURFLANT Leadership Award recipient and various other campaign, service, and unit awards.
