Cmdr. Jon Dieter, a native of South Carolina, was raised in Canisteo, N.Y. He received his commission from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program at the University of Rochester in 2008. Upon commissioning, he served as a Surface Warfare Officer-Information Professional (IP) option where he earned his Surface Warfare Officer and Information Warfare Officer pins and proceeded to conversion as an IP Officer in 2010.
Cmdr. Dieter’s sea tours include Communications Officer aboard USS Sterett (DDG 104), leading his division through the ship’s maiden deployment with Carrier Strike Group NINE to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf; and Flag Communications Officer for Commander, Carrier Strike Group ONE embarked aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) where he completed two Sustainment Exercises, a Western Pacific deployment, RIMPAC 2018 and two Fleet Battle Problems.
Ashore, he served as the Deputy Plans and Projects, Security Management, and Manpower and Personnel Department Head at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Naples, Italy; Cyber Mission Commander and Operational Sub-Element Lead at 502 Combat Mission Team in Kunia, Hawaii; Information Professional Junior Officer Detailer at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn.; and Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for C5I / CIO at U.S. 2
nd Fleet while dual-hatted as Deputy J6 / Cyber Defense Branch Head at Joint Force Command Norfolk.
Cmdr. Dieter holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in Information Technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Joint and Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College. He is also a member of the Navy’s Space Cadre community, holds a Level I Program Management Defense Acquisition Workforce Certification, and is a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
