Cmdr. John M. Connally is currently assigned as the Executive Officer of NCTAMS LANT Norfolk, Va.  A native of Oklahoma, he enlisted in the Navy in 1989 and graduated from RTC San Diego in 1990. He was commissioned via the Limited Duty Officer Program in 2005 and in 2011 lateral transferred to the Information Professional (IP) community. He earned a Master of Science in Cyber Security Digital Forensics and Investigations from the University of Maryland in 2014 and a Master of Defense Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada in 2020.
 
As a Radioman, his assignments included USS Defender (MCM 2), Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 3, Joint Communications Support Element, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8.  He conducted multiple deployments to include the North Atlantic, Bosnia and Operation Enduring Freedom I. He promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 2001. His warfare qualifications include the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Naval Aircrewman, and Naval Parachutist. 
 
As an Information Warfare Officer, Cmdr. Connally has completed operational tours as the Communications Officer aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1); Officer-in-Charge (OIC) with Naval Special Warfare Development Group; Operational Planner with Joint Special Operations Command; and as the Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems and Intelligence (C5I) Officer on board USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20).
 
He has conducted multiple deployments afloat and ashore to include Afghanistan, Iraq, SE Asia and across the continent of Africa. He has served as an OIC and as Director of Communications of Special Operations Task Forces, leading Joint, Inter-Agency C4ISR professionals.
 
Staff assignments include United States Africa Command, as the Satellite / Spectrum Branch Chief; Navy Personnel Command as the IP Junior Officer Detailer; Information Warfare Training Command San Diego as the Executive Officer; and as an International Exchange Student to the Canadian Forces Staff College Command.
 
His warfare qualifications include Surface Warfare Officer and Information Warfare Officer.
 
Cmdr. Connally is the recipient of various personal and campaign awards including the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), Joint Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards) and Combat Action Award.
