Master Chief Gilreath is a native of Mississippi. He was reared and attended schools in New Orleans, La. Following high school, he obtained work as a longshoreman and law enforcement officer based out of New Orleans, La. Post civilian employment experience, he reported to recruit training in Orlando, Fla.
His sea duty assignments include tours on board USS Independence (CV-62), USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) in Yokosuka Japan; USS Constellation (CV-64); USS Boxer (LHD-4), San Diego; USS Normandy (CG-60), Norfolk; COMCARSTRKGRU SEVEN (USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76)), San Diego; Navy Information Operations Command, San Diego, COMCARSTRKGRU NINE (USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76)); USS George Washington (CVN-73); USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71), San Diego; USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), Norfolk Va., and VFA 136, Lemoore Calif.

Master Chief Gilreath's formal education includes Associates of Sciences and Bachelors of Science degrees in liberal arts from Excelsior College, Harvard Business School certificate (HBX), and Master's Degree (MLA) in History from Louisiana State University.
He is designated as an Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (NIOC, CVN), Master Training Specialist, Master Training Specialist Mentor, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (CV, CVN, LHD, CG) and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (CVN). He is a graduate of Naval War College's Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief Capstone courses of instruction.
