A native of Idaho, Lt. Cmdr. Hoffman enlisted in 1995 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He attended follow-on training at Service School Command, San Diego, Calif., earning his rating as a Radioman. In 2010, he was selected through the Limited Duty Officer program and commissioned in January 2011. In 2016, he was selected for lateral transfer to Information Professional.
 
Prior to commissioning, he completed 15 years of enlisted service as an Information Systems Technician and was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2007. While enlisted he was assigned to USS Stethem (DDG 63), NCTAMS PAC, USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), and COMNAVPERSCOM.
 
Since commissioning, he has served as the Communications Officer aboard USS Anchorage (LPD 23), N6 for Commander Amphibious Squadron ONE, Information Systems Officer on USS Portland (LPD 27), and as the Communications and Information Systems Officer (CISO) on USS Essex (LHD 2). He is currently serving as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Navy Blue Team Detachment San Diego.
 
Lt. Cmdr. Hoffman received a Master’s of Science from University of Arkansas Grantham University. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), in addition to multiple unit level awards.
