Capt. Brian Broadwell is a native of North Carolina, and graduated from East Carolina University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He holds a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif. Capt. Broadwell received his commission via Officer Candidate School in 2004 as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer.
His sea tours include the USS Kidd (DDG 100) as the Ship’s Signal Exploitation Space Division Officer; Naval Special Warfare Support Activity TWO as a Tactical Information Operations Officer; Naval Special Warfare Development Group as Tactical Cyberspace Operations Troop Commander; and Commander, Carrier Strike Group THREE as staff Integrated Fires Officer and Deputy Information Warfare Commander.
Ashore assignments include Naval Security Group Activity Fort Meade as a Malicious Code Analyst and Computer Network Defense Operations Officer; Navy Information Operations Command Norfolk as the Director for the Navy Blue Team; Navy Information Operations Detachment Groton as the Officer in Charge, and Fleet Cyber Command / C10F / NAVSPACE as the Executive Assistant to the Commander.
Overseas deployments include an Individual Augmentation to COMUSNAVCENT as an Information Operations Planner in 2006; a WESTPAC on board USS Kidd in 2010; Special Operations Task Force – Southeast Afghanistan with SEAL Team TWO in 2012; and a Joint Task Force in Africa in 2015.
Capt. Broadwell has served on teams that have been awarded three Presidential Unit Citations, two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, and two Navy “E” Ribbons.
