Cmdr. Johnson, a native of Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Physics and commissioned though Officer Candidate School. He also earned a M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on computer architecture and reconfigurable computing from the Naval Post Graduate School.
His operational and afloat assignments include EP-3E special evaluator and special collections division officer at Naval Security Group Activity Misawa, Japan; and operations officer and EP-3E special evaluator at Navy Information Operation Command Bahrain in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As division officer and officer of the deck (underway) aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), he completed two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). As cryptologic resource coordinator for Commander, Carrier Strike Group Nine, he deployed to the western Pacific and Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Finally, he served as U.S. 7
th Fleet Director, offensive maritime information operations center (N39) aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), Yokosuka, Japan.
Ashore, Johnson served as the deputy collections manager and cyber operations officer at U.S. Pacific Fleet, and as the Navy’s senior cryptologic warfare instructor and the executive officer at Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla.
His qualifications include Information Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Naval Aviation Observer. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign, unit and service awards.
