Capt. Hanser, a native of Montana, graduated in 1993 from Montana State University with bachelor’s degree in Political Science.  He enlisted as Cryptologic Technician in 1998 before earning his commission through Officer Candidate School.  He graduated from Webster University in 2010 with a Master of Science in Space Systems Management and Acquisition.
 
Capt. Hanser reported as Commanding Officer, Navy Information Operations Command Texas / Commander Task Force 1040 in June 2023.
 
Fully Joint qualified, he serves as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer with diverse assignments at sea and ashore.  Fleet assignments included Deputy Director of Intelligence / Fleet Cryptologist for Commander, Naval Forces Central / 5th Fleet.  Amphibious Squadron EIGHT (PHIBRON 8) Information Warfare Commander / Cryptologic Resource Coordinator and Space Operations Officer as part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group.  He served aboard USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) as the ship’s Signals Information Warfare / Intelligence Officer and Assistant Operations Officer.  His operational deployments span the INDOPACOM, EUCOM and CENTCOM theaters in support of numerous named operations, joint and multinational theater security missions.
 
Ashore, he served as the Officer in Charge, Navy Information Operations Detachment Alice Springs and Mission Director for the Joint Defense Facility Pine Gap.  While assigned to U.S. Strategic Command, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Intelligence and regional / cyber intelligence Branch Chief.  Overhead collection manager, electronic watch officer, program manager; throughout his career Capt. Hanser has served in various roles in support of National and Fleet priorities.  While enlisted, he flew as an EP 3E signals analyst for Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron ONE (VQ1), Whidbey Island, Wash., in support of global fleet operations.
 
His previous tour was as Commanding Officer, Navy Information Operations Command Colorado / Commander Task Group 101.
 
Capt. Hanser’s accomplishments include various campaign, unit, service awards with several personal awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Air Medal.
