Capt. McGhee is a native of North Carolina.  He earned his commission in March 2000 under the Limited Duty Officer program.  In 2017, re-designated as an Information Professional (IP) Officer.  
 
His assignments since commissioning include USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), where he was the Electronics Material Officer (EMO) while simultaneously serving as Communications Officer and Automated Data Processing Officer.  During this tour, he earned his Officer of the Deck (Underway), Command Duty Officer, and Surface Warfare Qualification.  In July 2003, he reported to COMAFLOATRAGRU Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan, where he was the Operations / Training Liaison Officer.  In 2006, McGhee was the Executive Officer to the Commander of Joint Transformation Command - Intelligence and Officer-in-Charge of the Consolidated Intelligence Communications Center (CICC) at USJFCOM Joint Transformation Command for Intelligence in Norfolk, Va.  During this tour, he earned the 2007 Joint Junior Officer of the Year award.  In 2009, McGhee was the Combat Systems Information Officer (CSIO) on board USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).  During this tour, he earned the FY11 Navy and Marine Corps Association O-4 Leadership award by COMNAVAIRPAC and FY11 Copernicus award.  In 2012, McGhee served as Deputy Branch Head of Security at North Atlantic Treaty Organization Headquarters, Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Va.  In 2015, McGhee served as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff C4I at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Manama Bahrain.  In 2016, McGhee assumed command of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station San Diego.  In 2018, McGhee assumed Interim Commanding Officer of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Sicily.  In 2018, McGhee served as Executive Assistant to the Commander, NAVIFOR.  In 2020, McGhee served as Chief of Staff, Naval Information Warfighting Development Center.  In 2021, McGhee served as Commanding Officer NCTS Bahrain.
 
McGhee earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems from Strayer University as well as a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Management from Trident University.  He is a 2020 graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College and is a Joint Qualified Officer.
 
McGhee’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
