Lt. Cmdr. Robert “B.R.” Gary

Lt. Cmdr. Gary reported to RTC Great Lakes in June 2001 and began his career as a Submarine Radioman. He reported to the USS Rhode Island Blue in Kings Bay, Ga. in October 2002. There, he completed seven strategic deterrent patrols, including one Mediterranean deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and one Northern Atlantic deployment. In February 2007, he reported to Headquarters, United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM) Special Activities at Cheyenne Mountain, Colo., where he was the Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge of the NORTHCOM Mobile Consolidated Command Center (MCCC) and NORTHCOM Special Activities. During that time, he provided direct support to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President through their nuclear command and control missions. In 2010, he was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He then commissioned through the Seaman to Admiral-21 (STA-21) Commissioning Program in 2012.
In August 2013, Lt. Cmdr. Gary reported to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Fort Meade, Md., where he served as a Submarine Direct Support Officer, completing four CNO-directed special operations missions. Lt. Cmdr. Gary served on board USS Carl Vinson as the Cryptologic Warfare Officer, where he completed two Western Pacific deployments and participated in the 2018 Rim of the Pacific exercise. Within the cyber community, Lt. Cmdr. Gary served as the 500 Cyber Protection Team (CPT) Team Lead, as well as at Task Force-Pacific as the Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) Deputy Lead, and the Task Force-Pacific Deputy J3. He then served as the NIOC Hawaii DCO Director and Joint Task Force-Cyber Task Group THREE Commander. He most recently served as the Maritime Advanced Navigation Threat Analysis cell lead and plankowner, standing up a comprehensive C-C5ISRT capabilities and integration cell in support of U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Lt. Cmdr. Gary earned a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of North Florida, a Masters in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College, and a Masters in Diplomacy and Military Studies from Hawaii Pacific University.
Lt. Cmdr. Gary is currently serving at Naval Information Warfare Training Group Norfolk as the Executive Officer.
Lt. Cmdr. Gary’s awards include the Navy Expeditionary Medal, five Battle “E” Awards, four Navy Commendation Medals, and various other personal and unit awards.
