A native of Illinois, Command Master Chief (CMC) David Duncan enlisted in the Navy in January of 2002, and reported to Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Great Lakes, Ill.  Upon graduation, he completed SONAR Technician “A” and “C” School.

His first tour was onboard the USS Philippine Sea (CG-58) in Mayport, Fla.  He served as the Tactical Towed Array Work Center Supervisor and Leading Petty Officer.  He completed three deployments and one surge to the North Arabian Gulf in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  In 2009, he executed orders to RTC Great Lakes as a Recruit Division Commander.  While on this tour, he advanced to Chief Petty Officer.

In 2013, he was deployed to Bahrain as the Command 3MC for rotational crew MCM Crew Persistent.  There, he served on board USS Defender (MCM-2), USS Champion (MCM-4), USS Devastator (MCM-6), USS Ardent (MCM-12), and USS Chief (MCM-14).  In 2014, he reported to the USS Stockdale (DDG-106), serving as the Combat Acoustics Leading Chief Petty Officer and Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer.  He deployed with the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) Strike Group on a seven-month Indo-Pacific deployment conducting Freedom of Navigation and Pacific Presence Operations.  In October of 2016, he was assigned to Undersea Warfare Development Center DET San Diego where he trained and assessed all 2nd and 3rd Fleet Carrier Strike Groups in integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare execution.

Selected into the Command Senior Enlisted Leader program in 2017, he assumed duties as Command Senior Chief of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron TWO THREE (VX-23) at NAS Patuxent River, Md. In 2020, he was assigned as the plank-owner CMC for Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron FIVE ZERO (VRM-50), the Navy’s initial CMV-22B Fleet Replacement Squadron.  He is currently serving as the CMC for Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS) San Diego.

CMDCM Duncan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston, W.Va.  He is a graduate of the CMC / COB course (Class 19030), and the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 208, Blue).  He has earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, and Master Training Specialist designations.  His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards); Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards); Iraq Campaign Medal; and various unit and personal awards.
