Lt. Cmdr. Kayla Foster hails from Illinois, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 2010. She began her teaching career shortly after at a nearby high school. Accepting a position closer to home, she then taught junior high mathematics, coached basketball, and filled the athletic director position at her hometown school. She later transferred to a nearby high school before attending OCS and commissioning as a Naval Cryptologic Warfare Officer.
Lt. Cmdr. Foster’s operational assignments include Battle Watch Captain / Officer in Charge, Electronic Warfare Officer, and Tactical Information Warfare Officer. From July 2014 to June 2016, she was assigned to the SIGDEV directorate at Navy Information Operations Command Texas. From July 2016 to March 2017, she deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as the Battle Captain, Officer in charge, and Deputy Analysis and Production Lead in country during Operation Resolute Support. In June 2017, she was assigned to the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as the Electronic Warfare Officer and Tactical Information Warfare Officer on board during its 5
th Fleet Deployment. In 2019, she attended Naval Postgraduate School where she earned her Master of Science in Engineering Science with a major in Electrical Engineering. During this time she published a paper in 5G’s Location Based Services and earned her certificate in Space Systems Operations. In 2021, she served as the Operations Officer at Navy Information Operations Command Colorado / Command Task Group 101.
Lt. Cmdr. Foster currently serves as Executive Officer at NAVCOMTELSTA Guam.
Lt. Cmdr. Foster’s personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various personal, unit, and service awards.
