Information Systems Technician Chief Ryan A. Short

Chief Short is a native of Florida, where he enlisted in the Navy in January of 2012. After bootcamp, he attended Information Systems Technician “A” school and System Administrator “C” school.
His first assignment was at sea on board USS Chancellorsville, CG 62 (now USS Robert Smalls), San Diego, Calif., from 2013 through 2017. During the summer of 2015, USS Chancellorsville executed a change of homeport to Forward Deployed Naval Forced, Yokosuka, Japan.
In 2017 he reported to Commander, Submarine Pacific (COMSUBPAC), serving as Technical Control Supervisor and Broadcast Supervisor. He was selected to attend the Keying Material Infrastructure course and completed his tour as Force KMI Account Manager.
He returned to sea 2020 onboard USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), Yokosuka, Japan, where he was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 2022. While on board, he served as Combat Communications Acting LCPO, LCPO, and COMSEC Account Manager (CAM). During the summer of 2021, USS Curtis Wilbur executed a change of homeport to San Diego, Calif.
Chief Short is currently serving as Senior Enlisted Leader and Assistant Officer in Charge of NAVCOMTELSTA Far East, Detachment Chinhae, Korea, assuming his role July 2023.
He is authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Navy Battle “E” in addition to various service and campaign awards.
