Command Master Chief Matt Wilson is a native of Indiana and entered the Navy in February of 1998. Upon graduation from basic training, he attended a year of formal training, earning the title of Fire Controlman.
As a Fire Controlman, Master Chief Wilson served aboard the USS Thomas S. Gates (CG-51) in Pascagoula, Miss., as a MK86 Gunfire Control System and SPQ9 Radar technician; the USS Vella Gulf (CG-72) in Norfolk, Va., as Gunnery Division LPO, Combat Acoustics Division LCPO and Command Career Counselor; and the USS Anzio (CG-68) in Norfolk, Va., as Weapons Department LCPO.
Wilson’s shore assignments include Recruiting Duty at NRD Indianapolis; Instructor Duty at Center for Surface Combat Systems Dam Neck where he earned his Master Training Specialist; and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific where he was selected to Command Master Chief and served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader from August 2017 to August 2019.
In September 2019, Wilson took over as Command Master Chief for Coastal Riverine Squadron TWO in Little Creek, Va. While there, he deployed to 5
th Fleet AOR twice in support of CTF-56 and the command earned consecutive Battle E awards under Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.
In September 2022, Wilson reported to VFA-143 Pukin’ Dogs where he completed an eight-month deployment with Carrier Air Wing SEVEN on board the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) in support of Combined NATO Forces Europe. Following that deployment, the Pukin’ Dogs were recognized with the RADM C. Wade McClusky award as the most outstanding fighter squadron in the Navy. He reported to NAVNETWARCOM in August 2024, where he currently serves as the commands first Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts Degree for Administrative Management from Excelsior College and is a graduate of the Navy's Senior Enlisted Academy, class 167. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various other unit and campaign awards.
