Cmdr. Mark Barnes is a native of Louisiana. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and was commissioned as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer.
Cmdr. Barnes’ operational tours include leading cryptologic direct support elements at Navy Information Operations Command Hawaii in support of U.S. 5
th and 7
th Fleet requirements, serving as the Information Operations Intelligence Integration Officer and Intelligence Planner at Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, serving as the Intelligence Department Principal Assistant and Information Warfare Officer aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), and as the Deputy Information Warfare Commander and Chief of Information Operations (N39) for Carrier Strike Group FIFTEEN, where he spearheaded C-C5ISRT and Information Warfare integration training and readiness for the Fleet. His recent assignment includes serving as the Chief of Fires while assigned to Commander, U.S. 7
th Fleet.
Cmdr. Barnes’ shore assignments include serving as an Information Operations Planner and Division Officer for the Electronic Warfare Technical Guidance Unit at Navy Information Operations Command Norfolk as the Deputy Chief of Fleet Information Operations at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and 5
th Fleet in Bahrain, attending Air Command and Staff College, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Strategy and Planning and completed the Multi-Domain Operations Strategist program; and serving as the Officer-In-Charge of Navy Information Operations Detachment Australia.
Cmdr. Barnes is currently the Executive Officer of Navy Information Operations Command Pacific and Deputy Commodore, Task Force 1070.
