Executive Director, Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX

Executive Director G. Williams started his career initially enlisting in the Navy in February 1984 where he completed his cryptologic training as a CTT in Pensacola, Fla. He completed operational ELINT tours in Guam, Adak and Washington D.C. before accepting orders to NSGA Kami Seya, Japan where he served in a technical ELINT role as well as Direct Support role. Within his DIRSUP role, he deployed on board USS Midway (CV-41), USS Independence (CV-62), USS Bella Wood (LHA-3), USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) and USS Mobile Bay (CG-53). Prior to departing Kami Seya he was selected as a Chief Petty Officer. As a CPO he served as a Watch Officer and Training Officer at NSGA Denver, Colo. During his next operational ELINT tour to Diego Garcia, he was selected as a Chief Warrant Officer, commissioning in 2000 and was assigned to the USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55) as Signals Warfare Officer and Division Officer of all cryptologic and intelligence personnel.
During his time on board Leyte, he deployed directly after 9/11, serving more than 279 days straight at sea in support of Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He was selected as Boarding Officer for Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) during this time conducting numerous boardings in support of U.N. sanctions against Iraq. During his time on board Leyte, Mr. Williams achieved his Officer of the Deck and subsequent Surface Warfare Officer Qualifications while also ensuring his entire 24-person division achieved their enlisted Surface Warfare Qualifications. Mr. Williams truly enjoyed his time at sea as he sought opportunities to integrate with ships company offering mentorship to other rated Sailors during times of need.
He finished his 23-year military service at NCWDG, Suitland, where he was assigned as a Cyber Planner / Analyst within the Navy Network Warfare Command detachment at Ft. Meade. In this role, he assisted in establishing the Navy’s role in the then evolving warfare area known at the time as Computer Network Operations (CNO). Upon retiring in March 2007, Mr. Williams decided to pursue opportunities in industry supporting DoD.
He signed on with Booz Allen Hamilton as an Associate assigned to develop the Navy’s first warfare publication for CNO / Cyber. Later, he served in additional roles from supporting the stand-up a Navy Cyber Command, Fleet Cyber Command / Commander 10
th Fleet to standing up and manning the Navy’s Joint Force Headquarters – Cyber (JFHQ-C) charged with overseeing operational Cyber teams at NIOC Hawaii and NIOC Pensacola. In his JFHQ-C role, he stood up the Joint Fires Element charged with tasking / overseeing Navy Cyber operations. He later left Booz Allen Hamilton for a Director role at PLEX Solutions where he assisted with growing the company’s capacity to support NSA and other government agencies.
Yearning to get back to the Navy environment, he applied to government civil service and was selected as a Navy civilian serving at Cyber Strike Activity SIXTY-THREE (CSA-63) as Executive Director in June 2018. In this role he served as a Commanding Officer trusted advisor and executor of the command’s mission of manning and training Navy Cyber forces presented to the Cyber National Mission Force. He served in that role until Jun 2024 where he was selected to become the inaugural Executive Director of Cryptologic Group SIX (CWG-6) where he currently serves.
Highly decorated throughout his 40 plus years in the Navy, as government contractor and Navy civilian, his primary goals, ambitions and passion are taking care of the Sailors and Navy civilians within his realm of influence. It is through this dedication which motivates him to stay Navy!
