Capt. David T. Spalding is a native of Florida. He enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1996 and was commissioned an Ensign via the Seaman to Admiral – Twenty One program in 2004. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
His operational assignments include Naval Security Group Activities Fort Meade, Md. and Bahrain as Cryptologic Direct Support Element Operator / Mission Supervisor on EP-3E / P-3 Special Projects aircraft; multiple U.S. and Allied surface and subsurface combatants and special operations missions - Navy Information Operations Command Georgia as Submarine Direct Support Officer, USS Lassen (DDG 82) Forward Deployed Naval Forces Yokosuka, Japan as Information Warfare Officer, Navy Information Operations Detachment Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii as Officer in Charge, and Carrier Strike Group TEN embarked on board USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) as Deputy Information Warfare Commander / Assistant Chief of Staff for Integrated Fires.
His shore assignments include U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / Commander, U.S. 10
th Fleet as Force Allocation Officer, U.S. Central Command as Intelligence Planner, Chief of Targets Plans and Policy, and Executive Officer to the Director of Intelligence, and Naval Information Warfighting Development Center as Director of Afloat Training.
He currently serves as Chief Staff Officer at Naval Information Warfare Training Group Headquarters which is responsible for three subordinate commands, two detachments, and two reserve commands.
Capt. Spalding’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal (Strike/Flight) with the numeral “2”, three Navy Commendation Medals, five Navy Achievement Medals, and numerous unit and campaign medals. He is a Joint Qualified Officer.
