Cmdr. Jamie Safar is a 2006 graduate of University of California San Diego, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in History of War, Revolution, and Social Change and her commission through the Navy Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering. She holds a patent on behalf of the Department of Defense for Software Defined Network monitoring systems, earned the AFCEA John McReynolds Wozencraft Electrical and Computer Engineering Academic Honor award, and has authored six published articles in engineering conferences.
Her operational experience includes: Direct Support Information Operations Officer (IOO), USS Lincoln (CVN 72); Direct Support Officer (DSO) Surface, USS Mitscher (DDG 57); and IOO, Communications Officer, and Female Engagement Team leader, Provincial Reconstruction Team Khost, Afghanistan.
Her shore duty assignments include: Battle Watch Captain and Deputy Department Head at Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Georgia; Operations Training Officer at NIOC San Diego; Deputy Team Lead of Cyber Mission Team (CMT) 502 at NIOC Hawaii; Deputy Current Operations Officer at Joint Task Force (JTF) Ares; Assistant Program Manager (APM) of Systems Engineering for Special Projects at Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group (NCWDG); Deputy Principal Assistant Program Manager (PAPM) for Special Projects at NCWDG; and Deputy Commander at Cryptologic Warfare Group Six.
Safar’s personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, a Joint Commendation Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, and an Army Achievement Medal.
She is qualified as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer and Space Cadre Officer and has earned her Acquisition Professional Membership.
