An Arizona native, CTICM(IW/EXW) Joana Dodds enlisted as a Cryptologic Technician Interpretive (CTI) in the U.S. Navy in April 1998.  She studied Persian Farsi at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, Calif., with follow-on technical training at Navy Technical Training Command Detachment, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University, is a 2018 graduate of United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and a 2024 graduate of the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Course. 

Master Chief Dodds served one operational tour from October 2010 to November 2011 as a mobilized reservist with a Cryptologic Support Group in Iraq, where she worked as a signals intelligence analyst and assistant noncommissioned officer in charge of a 45-man team spread across seven forward operating bases.

Ashore, Master Chief Dodds served with Naval Security Group Activity Fort Gordon from 2000 to 2003 where she qualified in three missions and served as lead operator for two missions. From January 2006 to October 2010, Master Chief Dodds was a reservist assigned to Navy Reserve (NR) Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) North Island, for whom she served as Unit Language Coordinator, Leading Petty Officer of a 30-Sailor detachment, and provided linguistic support to NIOC Georgia and the Foreign Military Studies Office in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. From 2012 to 2016, she was assigned to NR NIOC Hawaii-Phoenix, where she served as Operations Officer and Senior Enlisted Leader. In 2017, Master Chief Dodds joined the Commander Navy Information Force Reserve (CNIFR) Region Southeast staff as Region Training Chief, and in March 2018, she was concurrently assigned as the CNIFR Language Program Manager. She served in both of these capacities until her transition from Reserve to Active Component affiliation in December 2018. Master Chief Dodds was assigned to NIOC Georgia from December 2018 to April 2024, where she served as Senior Enlisted Leader, Department Leading Chief Petty Officer, Command Fitness Leader, and Command Managed Equal Opportunity Program Manager.  She is currently assigned to Cryptologic Warfare Activity SIX FIVE as their Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Master Chief Dodds is a qualified Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist.  She is authorized to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other campaign and service awards. Off duty, Master Chief Dodds is a Registered Nurse with experience in emergency, public health, and perioperative specialties.
