Lt. Cmdr. Iris P. Wood

A native of New York, Lt. Cmdr. Wood attended enlisted basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes and Information Systems Technician “A” School in 2003. She received her commission through the Seaman to Admiral 21 (STA-21) program and graduated from Fordham University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Science. She holds a Master of Science in Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon University and transferred to the Information Warfare Officer community in 2014. She is a graduate of the Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I and holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional certification.
Afloat, Lt. Cmdr. Wood completed her division officer tours aboard the USS Dewey (DDG 105) as the Main Propulsions and Communications Officer. While on Dewey, she participated in the ship’s maiden deployment to the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the Middle East with the John C. Stennis Strike Group and qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer. Lt. Cmdr. Wood served as Carrier Strike Group TWO flag communications officer embarked aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN 69), in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
Ashore, Lt. Cmdr. Wood served in the Tactical Data Links Code 59111 division at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific; spearheaded the stand up of the U.S. Navy Space Command at U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. 10
th Fleet / U.S. Navy Space Command and integrated maritime space capabilities throughout the joint and maritime Space organizations; and served as the Force Communications Officer, U.S. Fleet Forces. She recently fleeted up as the Executive Officer after a tour as the Operations Officer at Naval Information Warfare Training Group Norfolk.
Lt. Cmdr. Wood’s personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), among campaign, unit, and service awards.
