Master Chief Petty Officer Ortiz is a native of New York, and completed basic training in September 2001 at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
He graduated from Information Systems Technician `A` school in January 2002. He holds three warfare designations: Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist (EIWS), Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS), and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS). CMDCM Ortiz holds the following Navy Enlisted Codes (NEC): Advanced Warrior Toughness Training (AWT) Instructor (807D), Senior Enlisted Academy (8SEA), Command Senior Chief (8CSC), and Command Fitness Leader (8CFL).
CMDCM Ortiz served at sea on board USS Thorn (DD 988), Norfolk, Va., USS Austin (LPD 4), Norfolk, Va., USS Stethem (DDG 63) in San Diego, Calif., and on board USS Tulsa (LCS 16) Crew 215 Blue Team as the Command Senior Enlisted leader in San Diego, Calif.
On shore he served at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station (NCTAMS) Atlantic (LANT) Detachment (Det) Rota, Spain; Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing Eleven (CPRW 11) Det Fleet Support Unit (FSU) FIVE in Jacksonville, Fla.; Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Naples, Italy; Commander Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) in Seoul / Busan South Korea; Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) in Coronado, San Diego; and is currently serving at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station San Diego, in Coronado, Calif., as the Command Master Chief.
He holds an AA in General Studies and holds various CompTIA certifications. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
