Master Chief April Harmon is a native of Georgia. She graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in May 2000 and entered the U.S. Navy attending basic training in Great Lakes, Ill., in April 2001.
After completing recruit training, she attended Electrician’s Mate “A” School in Great Lakes, Ill. Her first duty assignment was with USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) in Norfolk, Va. After completing two 5
th Fleet deployments, she left as an Electrician’s Mate Third Class in 2005. She took follow-on orders to USS The Sullivans (DDG 68) in Mayport, Fla., completing a Black Sea deployment.
In September 2007, she took follow-on orders to BRIG Jacksonville at NAS Jacksonville. In 2010 she was selected for rate conversion to CTR. Reported to CTR “A” School in Pensacola, Fla., with follow-on orders to USS Stethem (DDG 63) in Yokosuka, Japan, reporting in September 2011 after completing both CTR “A” and “C” schools. While on board she completed a 5
th Fleet and a 7
th Fleet deployment. She left as a Cryptologic Technician Collection First Class in July 2014 and reported to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Norfolk in August 2014. Leading Petty Officer and Lead Cryptologic Assessor, she managed all Ship’s Signal Exploitation Spaces CRY assessments Naval Vessels homeported in Norfolk, Va., Mayport, Fla., and Rota Spain.
In August 2017, she transferred to NRD Atlanta on a Humanitarian assignment for 12 months. Afterwards she accepted orders to the NIOC Georgia. Transferred in August 2018 and while in transit, she was selected to Chief Petty Officer before reporting. There she was the Leading Chief Petty Officer of CTF 1050 Battle Watch and Tactical Maritime Watch Iran watch floor, providing remote support to deployed assets in the 5
th Fleet area of responsibility.
In May of 2021 she reported to USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer shortly after reporting. On board she served as the Department Leading Chief Petty Officer for Intelligence Department and completed an extended nine-month deployment to 6
th Fleet in support of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
She is currently serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Cryptologic Warfare Maritime Activity SIXTY-ONE.
Her academic achievements include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice; Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy; Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education; FEMA Homeland Security Level I, II and III.
Her personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various service and campaign awards.
