Lt. Cmdr. Juan Lopez is a native of California and attended the University of California Irvine earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History in 2010. He earned a Master of Arts in Security Studies from Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.
He was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy in 2013, from Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island, after working three years in the non-profit sector providing mental health services to at-risk youth in Orange County, Calif. After completing Naval Intelligence Officer Basic School in Virginia Beach, Va., he was assigned to Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center under the Office of Naval Intelligence where he served as a 7th Fleet watch stander and an analyst in the Department of Transnational Threats. His other ashore assignment was to U.S. 5th Fleet where he served as the Transnational Threat and then Iran Analysis Division Officer.
His operational assignments include serving as the N2A and then N2 of Coastal Riverine Squadron THREE in Imperial Beach, Calif., where he deployed in support of the Global War on Terror; and the Executive Officer for the Joint GEOINT Squadron at Joint Special Operations Command Intelligence Brigade where he forward deployed as the Deputy J2 for a Joint Task Force.
Lt. Cmdr. Lopez is currently serving as the Executive Officer for Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Whidbey Island in Washington state.
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and various campaign and unit awards.
