Cmdr. Jason N. Gerontes

Cmdr. Gerontes is native of Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He was commissioned via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) in 2009. He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science in Network Operations and Technology in 2016.
Afloat, he has served as Communications Officer, COMSEC Custodian, and Navigator on board USS Simpson (FFG-56) homeported in Mayport, Fla. He served as Combat Systems Information Officer (CSIO) on board USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) – forward deployed, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.
Ashore he served at Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center, Monterey, Calif., as Information Assurance Officer, COMSEC Custodian, and Submarine Weather Forecasting Watchfloor Command Duty Officer. He was Flag Aide and Deputy Executive Assistant to Commander, Naval Information Forces in Suffolk, Va. Cmdr. Gerontes was also the Director of Joint Military Deception Training at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va. He served as Executive Officer at Naval Oceanography Mine Warfare Center at Stennis Space Center, Miss.
He most recently served as Assistant Chief of Staff for C4I (N6) at Commander, Carrier Strike Group FIFTEEN.
Cmdr. Gerontes’ personal awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and the Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon. He is a recipient of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Outstanding Thesis Award and the Joint Forces Staff College’s Instructor of the Year Award for Academic Year 2021.
