Capt. Michael R. Laraya

Capt. Laraya is a native of California. He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He received his Master of Science Degree from the College of Information and Cyberspace at the National Defense University and is a graduate of Joint Professional Military Education Phases I and II.
His operational assignments include serving in both sea and expeditionary environments. He served as the Assistant OIC for Maritime Expeditionary Boat Detachment 562 and deployed as part of Commander Task Group 56.5; C5I Officer for Amphibious Squadron FOUR embarked on the USS Kearsarge; Deputy Director for Knowledge Management for U.S. Forces – Afghanistan; Communications Officer for Commander Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group ONE and deployed as the Initial Operational Capability for Commander Task Force 75; and Director of Communications for Naval Special Warfare Group TWO and orchestrated the initial deployment and resourcing for Joint Special Operations Task Force TWO.
Shore assignments include Joint Fleet Telecommunications Operations Center Division Officer for Navy Computer and Telecommunication Area Master Station Atlantic; Officer-in-Charge for Navy Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic, Detachment Rota, Spain; Executive Officer for Navy Computer and Telecommunications Station Far East, Yokosuka, Japan; Director of Communications / Command Information Officer for Naval Special Warfare Command; and served as the Senior Military Advisor for the Department of Defense Chief Information Officer.
His Qualifications include Information Warfare Officer, Strike Group Staff Battle Watch Captain, and is a qualified Patrol Leader and Coxswain for Coastal Riverine small craft. He is a certified Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Information Security Officer, Joint Qualified Officer, and holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, as well as a number of other information technology certifications.
