Lt. Cmdr. Stephen S. Clouse

Lt. Cmdr. Clouse is a native of Utah and commissioned through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program and Officer Development School (ODS) in June 2014. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics with minors in both Mathematics and Management and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana and Champaign in 2014 with a Master of Science in Astronomy. Additionally, he completed the Anti-Submarine Warfare Certification through Naval Postgraduate School in 2018 and the Naval Command and Staff Online Program through the U.S. Naval War College in 2021, completing Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase 1. His additional qualifications also include VS7 Space Cadre.
He assumed his present duties as the OIC of NIWTG Detachment Japan in September 2025.
His operational tours afloat include service as a Subsurface Direct Support Officer at Cryptologic Warfare Maritime Activity SIX ONE, where he deployed aboard four submarines from 2018 to 2021. From 2023 to 2025 he served as the Cryptologic Resource Coordinator and Space Resource Coordinator for Commander, Task Force SEVEN ZERO / Carrier Strike Group FIVE before reporting to his current assignment.
His shore tours include service as a Nuclear Power School instructor at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command from 2014 to 2018. From 2021 to 2023 he served at Naval Information Operations Command Colorado as the Chief of Operations for NSA Colorado's Collection, Exploitation, and Cryptanalysis Operations directorate.
Lt. Cmdr. Clouse’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as multiple unit and service awards.
