Cmdr. Tyrone “Ty” Waller II

Born in Ohio and raised in North Carolina, Cmdr. Waller earned a commission through Officer Candidate School in 2009 after graduating from Ohio State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, a M.S. in Cyber Systems, and a B.A. in Aeronautical Science.
Following initial training in Pensacola, Fla., Cmdr. Waller reported to National Security Agency Georgia where he qualified as an Operations Watch Officer, providing real-time intelligence and cyber support to national, theater, and tactical consumers during Odyssey Dawn.
From 2012 to 2013, Waller deployed with Fleet Air Reconnaissance One as a Signals Evaluator onboard the EP-3E Aircraft and as Officer in Charge of NIOC Georgia’s airborne direct support elements in Souda Bay, Crete and Rota, Spain. He accumulated more than 500 flight hours in support of multiple
operations.
In 2013, Cmdr. Waller reported aboard USS George H. W. Bush (CVN-77) as the ship’s Cryptologist and Electronic Warfare Officer, deploying to the CENTCOM and EUCOM
AORs.
He was then detailed to National Security Agency Washington as a Deputy Section Chief within Computer Network Operations and earned recognition as the 2019 Junior Officer Military Performer of the 2
nd quarter across the Computer Network Operations Enterprise.
Following a successful tour, Cmdr. Waller reported as the Cryptologic Resource Coordinator for Carrier Strike Group THREE embarked on USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) where he oversaw cryptologic
operations.
In 2021, CDR Waller was selected for an Information Warfare cross-detailed leadership assignment as the Executive Officer, Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Keesler.
Most recently from 2023-2025, Cmdr. Waller served as the Chief of Current Operations for the Cyber National Mission Force, a sub-unified command under the operational control of United States Cyber
Command.
In September 2025, he assumed command as plank owner and inaugural Commanding Officer of Cyber Squadron ONE.
