Lt. Cmdr. Baez is a native of Pennsylvania.  He graduated the U. S. Naval Academy in May 2014 with a bachelor’s in mathematics.  In 2021, he earned his master’s from Purdue University in Information Security and Assurance.

Lt. Cmdr. Baez was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Information Professional Option Officer.  His Surface Warfare Officer tours were on board USS George Washington and USS Ronald Regan as the Deck Division Officer.  His final assignment in this designator was on board the USS Rushmore as the Assistance Operations Officer.

In 2018, he then executed his Information Professional Option and converted to this designator.  His assignments include being on board USS Princeton as the Cyber Officer.  During this time, he earned the Copernicus Award, this award recognizes individual contributions to naval warfare in C4I / IT, Information Systems, Cyber Operations, and Information Warfare.  He served in the 2nd NATO Signal Battalion as their S2 Chief.  Lt. Cmdr. Baez served as the NCTS SATCOM Department Head, where he was responsible for 24/7 multiband, multimedia, and worldwide reach-back capabilities to the DoDIN for deployed tactical and strategic forces operating in EUCOM, AFRICOM, and CENTCOM AORs.  During this time, he also earned his second Copernicus Award. Prior to his transfer to NIOC Pensacola, Lt. Cmdr. Baez was the Staff Communications Officer for Naval Construction Group TWO, where he was responsible for communication readiness for his command and nine subordinate commands across the Atlantic.

Lt. Cmdr. Baez’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards).
