Capt. Eng was commissioned as a submarine officer through Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps in 1998. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in computer science and from Old Dominion University with a Master of Engineering Management degree. He transferred to the cryptologic warfare community in 2002.
His operational assignments include duty as the main propulsion assistant and assistant weapons officer aboard USS Santa Fe (SSN 763); fleet signals intelligence warfare officer and ship’s signal exploitation space division officer on the staff of U.S. 7th Fleet; and tactical information operations officer with Naval Special Warfare Special Reconnaissance Team 1, deploying with Naval Special Warfare Squadron 7 as the Cross Functional Troop 7 commander.
Ashore, his assignments include duty as a senior watch officer and subsurface direct support officer at Navy Information Operations Command Hawaii; executive officer of Navy Information Operations Command Menwith Hill; chief of Cyber Analysis Group, deputy chief of China Division, and navy element commander at U.S. Pacific Command Joint Intelligence Operations Center; deputy group chief at National Security Agency/Central Security Service Hawaii; deputy director for intelligence and information operations and fleet cryptologist at U.S. Pacific Fleet; and director of operations and deputy commander at Fleet Information Warfare Command Pacific. Most recently, Eng was executive assistant to Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (N2N6) and Director of Naval Intelligence until June 2026.
His command tours include Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station and National Security Agency/Central Security Service Hawaii.
A qualified Information Warfare and Joint Officer, Eng’s military decorations include a Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Joint, Service Achievement Medal (two awards) and Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), along with various campaign and unit awards.
