Lt. Cmdr. Richard H. Burton


Richard BurtonLt. Cmdr. Richard H. Burton began his military career in 1996 as an intelligence analyst, 1st Battlefield Coordination Detachment. He subsequently transferred to 96th Civil Affairs Battalion, Fort Bragg, N.C., U.S. Army. He commissioned as a naval intelligence officer and reported to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 in 2009 as a staff imagery officer. He completed a West Atlantic cruise onboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), followed by a humanitarian cruise onboard the USNS Mercy (T-AH-19) in support of Pacific Partnership 2010, performing as the liaison officer to the U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia.

In 2011 as an intelligence department head onboard Strike Fighter Weapons School, Oceana, Virignia, he created the Navy’s only Basic Aviation Intelligence Course supporting air operations and intelligence training. In 2015 as an operations officer, Non-State Threats Division, U.S. Central Command he deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support.

In 2016 he re-designated as an information professional, and reported to Naval Network Warfare Command as the command training officer and assistant current operations officer. In 2018, he reported as the communications officer to Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2, providing information technology and communications expertise in support of Operation Chesapeake aboard USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) and Operation Trident Juncture aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).

His academic accomplishments include a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology, magna cum laude, Master of Arts in Leadership and Management, and ongoing studies towards a Master of Science in Information Technology/Project Management.

His decorations include two commendation medals, three Naval Achievement Medals, and one Army Achievement medal, and several service and campaign awards.
