Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command Celebrates Noble Accolades!
28 February 2023
Suffolk, VA --
The Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command (NCDOC) brought home several awards from the 2023 Department of the Navy Information Technologies (DoN IT) Conference Feb. 13 through 16 in San Diego, Calif.
NCDOC was awarded the 2023 DoN IT Excellence Innovative Award, the most prestigious and longest running award program that recognizes excellence in Information Management (IM) and Information Technology (IT) in the DoN.
Also during the DoN IT Conference, Cmdr. Brandon Campbell, NCDOC Director of Operations, was selected as DoN IT Person of the Year (2023), and was presented a plaque at the recognition ceremony.
"It was both incredibly humbling and such an honor to be recognized as the DoN IT Person of the Year. The Sailors and civilians at NCDOC are incredibly passionate and dedicated when it comes to defending and protecting Navy networks, and without their hard work and effort none of NCDOC's Cloud modernization efforts would have been possible," said Campbell.
To close out the conference, on Feb. 16, Navy leadership celebrated the opening of NCDOC West with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Vice Adm. Craig Clapperton, Commander, Fleet Cyber Command / Commander, 10th Fleet, Rear Adm. Tracy Hines, Navy Cyber Security Division Director, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Ms. Tami North, Naval Information Forces, Director, Information Warfare Readiness, and Capt. Christina Hicks, Commanding Officer, NCDOC.
At the opening of the ceremony, Hicks spoke about the evolution from NCDOC's beginnings in 1995 as the Navy's Computer Incident Response Team with a crew of five personnel to where they are today - a modernized command of approximately 1,000 personnel operating the Department of Defense's most advanced and robust Defensive Cyber Operations platform.
"Today is the culmination of years of effort and collaborations across Fleet Cyber Command, Navy Information Forces, and the Navy Computer and Telecommunications Station San Diego teams to ensure we have a resilient 24/7 operations capability for our critical mission to defend and protect Navy networks against advanced adversaries."
The NCDOC West facility located in San Diego will provide mission resiliency to continuously maintain the capability and capacity to perform essential functions and services, without delay, in support of afloat and ashore units.
Chief Cryptologic Technician (Networks) Nicole Simpson is the first Sailor assigned to NCDOC West and will serve as NCDOC West's first Senior Enlisted Leader. Her duties will include onboarding the prospective team of Sailors and civilians over the next several months.
NCDOC West is scheduled to be fully operational next year.
NCODC's mission is to execute defensive cyberspace operations and enable global projection through PROACTIVE network defense.
