Commander Henry "Tuck" Gilbert entered the Navy as a Cryptologic Warfare Officer in 2003 through the Officer Candidate School at Pensacola, FL. After commissioning and completion of the Cryptologic Basic Officers Course, he reported to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC), Georgia located at Fort Gordon in February of 2004. After qualifying with and working on the National Security Agency (NSA) watch floor as an Operations Watch Officer, he deployed to Iraq as part of the Cryptologic Services Group Baghdad in October 2005 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Upon return from Iraq, Commander Gilbert qualified as a submarine Direct Support Officer with deployments onboard the USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN-757) and USS OKLAHOMA CITY (SSN-723) in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
In March 2008, Commander Gilbert reported to the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. After finishing his masters in computer science, he transferred to NIOC Maryland (now Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX) at Fort Meade in 2010 to work in the NSA Tailored Access Operations Department. In May 2013, he reported to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. Tenth Fleet and worked as the Cyber Doctrine Lead for Plans and Policies. Commander Gilbert joined the Carrier Strike Group TWO staff in July of 2015 as the Cryptologic Resource Coordinator for the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH Strike Group which deployed in 2017 to EUCOM and CENTCOM in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. In December 2017, Commander Gilbert reported to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Hampton Roads as the Executive Officer. In May 2019, he changed duty stations to U.S. Naval Forces Europe & Africa / U.S. SIXTH Fleet in Naples, Italy to serve as the Deputy Director of Intelligence and Force Cryptologist. He arrived back in Maryland in July 2021 to assume duties as the Executive Officer of Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX and Deputy Commander, Task Force 1060.
Commander Gilbert's personal awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (2), and various campaign/unit/service decorations. He holds qualifications as an Information Warfare Officer, a Cryptologic Basic Warfare Officer, a Cryptologic Operational Warfare Officer, a Cryptologic Staff Planner, a Cyber Mission Leader, a Cyber Service Planner, a Battle Watch Captain, and a Force Tactical Action Officer.
