Capt. Will Wilson enlisted in the Navy in July 1996 under the Navy’s Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program where he earned a Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship. He graduated and was commissioned in 2001 from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology. He holds a Master of Science in Space Systems Operations Management from Webster University and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Eisenhower School, National Defense University.
Originally a surface warfare officer, he was re-designated in 2004 to special duty officer (cryptology), now cryptologic warfare officer, is a joint qualified officer, and a member of the Navy’s space cadre.
His operational and at-sea tours include serving as the fire control officer onboard the USS REUBEN JAMES (FFG 57) where he participated in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM; direct support officer at Naval Security Group Activity Yokosuka, Japan; individual augmentation as the division SIGINT officer, 10th Mountain Division and 34th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division South, Al Basrah, Iraq supporting the Iraq Campaign; cryptologic resource coordinator/deputy information warfare commander for Amphibious Squadron THREE embarked on the USS PELELIU (LHA 5) which deployed to the Persian Gulf and conducted humanitarian assistance disaster relief operations in support of the 2010 Pakistan floods; fleet cryptologist and collection manager for U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. SIXTH Fleet; and director of current operations for U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. TENTH Fleet.
Ashore, he served as a resource mission manager at Navy Information Operations Command Colorado in Aurora, CO; executive officer, Center for Information Dominance Unit at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California; the commanding officer and plankowner of Cryptologic Warfare Activity SIXTY SEVEN at Fort Meade, Maryland; and finally as a cyber operations action officer and executive assistant at the Joint Staff J-39, Deputy Director for Global Operations at the Pentagon.
His personal awards and decorations include two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, a Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and campaign awards.
