CTICM(NAC/AW/IW) Anthony R. Walter

Senior Enlisted Leader, Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Korea

14 March 2024 A native of Indiana, Master Chief Walter enlisted in the United States Navy and reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Ill., in December 2004.  He attended Cryptologic Technician Interpretive (CTI) "A” school in Monterey, Calif., before reporting in 2006 to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Georgia in Augusta, Ga.  In 2009 he reported to Pensacola, Fla., for Naval Aircrew Candidate School.  Upon completing aircrew training, he reported to NIOC Bahrain where he served as a direct support cryptologist aboard EP-3E aircraft.  Throughout these tours of duty, he deployed multiple times in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, earning his Naval Aircrewman wings and advancing to Petty Officer First Class.

In 2011, Master Chief Walter transferred back to NIOC Georgia for a second tour of duty as an aircrewman.  During this tour, he served as the Leading Petty Officer for the Air Operations division and completed several deployments to the CENTCOM, AFRICOM and SOUTHCOM areas of responsibility (AOR).  In 2014, he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and selected for Airbourne Special Projects duty with Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Kaneohe Bay (KBay), Hawaii where he served as the Operations department Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO).  During his tenure at NIOD KBay, the detachment earned two Battle “E” ribbons. 
 
In 2019, Master Chief Walter returned to CTI “A” school as staff and served as the Indoc division and Operations department LCPO.  Upon advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer in September 2020, he assumed the duties of the Office of the Provost Senior Enlisted Leader for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) where he led the multi-service cadre of Military Language Instructors delivering instruction in 16 languages.  In August 2021, he assumed the duties of the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Information Warfare Training Command Monterey in California.
 
In 2022, Master Chief Walter transferred to NIOC Hawaii for a fourth tour of duty as a direct support aircrewman.  Here he served as Air Operations department LCPO and deployed to the INDOPACOM AOR.  In May 2023, he was merit screened for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer and selected for orders to NIOD Korea where he assumed the duties and responsibilities of the Command Senior Enlisted Leader in December 2023.
 
Along with multiple unit and campaign awards, Master Chief Walter’s personal awards include the Air Medal Strike / Flight Award (seven awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).  He is a qualified Naval Aircrewman, Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.  He holds Associates degrees in Arabic and French from DLIFLC, and is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy class 257 and the Navy Leadership and Ethics Center Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat course 24020.
