Lt. Cmdr. Ashley Mielke is a native of California and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  He received his commission in 2010 from Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I.  He holds a Master of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School and has completed JPME Phase 1.
 
Originally a surface warfare officer, he was re-designated in 2015 to special duty officer (oceanography), now meteorology and oceanography (METOC) officer.
 
His operational and at-sea tours include serving as the strike officer and visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) officer on board USS Antietam (CG 54) and after conducting a hull swap, on board USS Cowpens (CG 63); fire control officer and VBSS officer on board the USS William P Lawrence (DDG 110) where he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom; METOC division officer for Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Center where he supported Special Reconnaissance Team TWO and Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR; and METOC officer on board USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and participated in Operation Octave Quartz.
 
Ashore, he served as an oceanography capabilities and requirements manager for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare, Oceanography Directorate.
 
His personal awards and decorations include two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various service and unit awards.
