Cmdr. Brett O'Donovan


Brett O'DonovanCmdr. Brett O’Donovan, U.S. Navy, assumed command of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS) San Diego, on Oct.10, 2019.

Cmdr. O’Donovan is a native of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He is a 2000 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy where he received a bachelor of science degree in computer science. He was designated a naval aviator in 2002 and an information professional in 2016. He holds a master of science degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in systems analysis, and master of arts degree in defense and strategic studies.

O’Donovan's sea tours include Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 43 where he deployed twice, once conducting counter drug operations in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea aboard USS McCloskey (FFG 41) and second aboard USS Princeton (CG 59). He served as the air operations officer on the Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 23 staff, deploying as the sea combat commander for Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11 aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68). He completed his department head tour at Helicopter Strike Maritime (HSM) 75 where he served as operations officer and deployed as officer in charge of the HSM detachment aboard USS Stockdale (DDG 106). He supported Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom during his last three deployments.

Ashore, O’Donovan served as operational test director for MH-60R/S programs at Air Test and Evaluation Squadron VX) 1, deputy branch head in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N2N6), and operations officer and chief staff officer at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Pacific.

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal.
