Lt. Cmdr. Michael A. Schmidt
Executive Officer
Lt. Cmdr. Michael A. Schmidt, is a native of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and started his Navy career in January 1991. He earned a Bachelor degree from Excelsior College in 2004 and subsequently received a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from the Air Command and Staff College in 2018. He is a member of the Navy’s Information Warfare Community.
While enlisted, Lt. Cmdr. Schmidt served at Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Misawa, Japan, Rota, Spain, Fort Meade, Md., and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, supporting the Open Skies Treaty. As a Cryptologic Technician Interpretive, he tested in Russian, Ukrainian and Serbo-Croatian and qualified as an Airborne Mission Supervisor on the EP-3E and Interpreter/Sensor Operator onboard multiple Open Skies aircraft. He deployed to the USS Eisenhowser with VQ-6, USS Trenton, HMCS Charlottetown, served four months in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and accrued over 1000 flight hours on multiple airframes.
As an officer, he served at Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Bahrain, Maryland and Hawaii. He qualified as a Special Evaluator on the EP-3 supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, then managed the Advanced Language Response Team at NIOC Maryland establishing operational opportunities for his Sailors across the Intelligence Community. During his tour as the office in charge of Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Kaneohe Bay, he managed the distribution of manpower and operational requirements from the disestablishment of NIOD Jacksonville, Florida. At NIOC Hawaii, Lt. Cmdr. Schmidt served in four roles across the Command, culminating as the hand selected N1 department head, where he consolidated the administrative department under one roof and improved administrative efficiency while decreasing discrepancies. Lt. Cmdr. Schmidt served at U.S. Central Command, J2, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division where he was assigned as the Chief, Current Plans and Intelligence Oversight Officer.
Lt. Cmdr. Schmidt is currently serving as the executive officer at U.S. Navy Information Operations Command, Bahrain.
Lt. Cmdr. Schmidt’s military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (seven awards), Aerial Achievement Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards) and other personal awards, various campaign and unit decorations.
