NIWDC Launches New Curriculum, Taking IW into the Future Fight
07 April 2025
Norfolk, Va. --
On March 27, Naval Information Warfighting Development Center (NIWDC) achieved another milestone in advancing Information Warfare (IW) capabilities with the graduation of its fourteenth iteration of IW Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) course.
Twenty-eight commissioned officers and eleven senior enlisted Sailors were designated as the latest WTIs who will play a pivotal role in enhancing lethality within the Fleet, strengthening its operational capabilities, and ensuring mission success in critical warfare scenarios. The WTI program exemplifies the evolution and enhancement of the IW domain, providing WTIs with the skills to navigate the challenges of modern IW through expertise and innovation.
This also marks the fourth Training Development Cycle (TDC) of NIWDC’s Naval Information Warfare Advanced Weapons School (NIWAWS). The latest TDC introduces the Counter-Command, Control, Computing, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting (C-C5ISRT) curriculum, focusing on the effective coordination and synchronization of joint assets to neutralize critical enemy resources at sea. C-C5ISRT serves as a powerful strategy and is deeply rooted in the IW domain. This milestone signifies the seamless integration of IW across all spheres of warfare.
Rear Adm. Brian A. Harding, commander, NIWDC, presided over the patching ceremony for the 39 WTI graduates who completed the demanding 8-week course, expanding their scope of knowledge of the Meteorology and Oceanography, Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, Command and Control, and Cyber Operations communities.
Harding praised the graduates for their commitment and emphasized the importance of applying their acquired expertise to effectively confront warfighting challenges.
“We at NIWDC look at our contribution to Navy goals in three key areas: Warfighters, Warfighting, and Doctrine,” said Harding. “IW WTIs breathe life into advanced tactics as they move between ship and shore updating IW doctrine for decisive victory in war.”
This was also the landmark class that launched the new Cyberspace Operations patches, of Defensive Cyberspace Operations, Offensive Cyberspace Operations, and Cyber Warfare. These new efforts align to professionalizing Cyber in a way already formalized in other WTI disciplines. This diversity fosters a holistic approach to operational effectiveness in contested environments, aligning with the evolving demands of modern warfare. Equipped with enhanced knowledge and a cadre of 285 WTIs already serving worldwide in the Fleet, these new graduates are poised to advance the IW mission across all domains.
