Lt. James W. Mooney
Assistant Officer in Charge, Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD) Korea

Lt. Mooney is a native of Maryland. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Salisbury University.
After being commissioned through Officer Candidate School in November 2015, he received orders to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he spent three years as a subsurface direct support officer for the Fleet Information Operations Center at Naval Information Operations Command, Hawaii. He qualified Battle Watch Captain and earned his Information Warfare pin.
In September of 2019 he transferred to Cyber Support Team 500. Assigned to Naval Information Operations Command in Pensacola, Fla., he served as the Staff Officer on the national side, and later as Computer Network Operations (CNO) Cyber Mission Lead.
Following this, Lt. Mooney assumed his current duties as Assistant Officer in Charge at U.S. Naval Information Operations Detachment Korea, Pyeongtaek, South Korea. He also serves as the Chief of Maritime Activity for the Bundang Mission Center (BMC) in support of Special U.S. Liaison Activity Korea.
Lt. Mooney enjoys archery, long-distance running, smoking meats, and is an avid birdwatcher.
