The Navy recognizes that families are integral to the success of our mission as much as the Sailors themselves.  The ombudsman helps to ensure that your Navy experience is a positive one.  CWMA-61 has appointed Mrs. Maria Sanderson as the command ombudsman.  Please contact her by email at, or by telephone at 301-957-5218.

If you are not familiar with the ombudsman program, the ombudsman is here to be your voice to the command.  The ombudsman is also there for the commanding officer to relay information back to the families.  The ombudsman program belongs to the command and is shaped by the commanding officer's perception of the needs of CWMA-61 families.  The ombudsman is a voluntary representative of the command, appointed by the commanding officer.  The ombudsman is also able to connect with local resources and help in emergency situations.

The Fleet and Family Support Center assists individuals and families through a full array of programs and resources that help military families to be resilient, well-informed and adaptable to the Navy environment.  The staff supports mission readiness, assists commanders in planning for and responding to family readiness needs and facilities building a strong community network of services through education, community outreach and partnerships.  The center's staff leads workshops on a variety of topics, such as life skills development, military and personal career development and personal financial management.  Relocation assistance provides information, education and counseling on all issues related to a permanent change of station (PCS).
