Command Master Chief Marcus Steimer


Command Master ChiefMaster Chief Steimer, a native of San Rafael, California, enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1996. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Naval Submarine School, Groton, Connecticut, where he completed Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Navigation Electronic Technician apprenticeship training.  Upon graduation, he reported for duty onboard USS Olympia (SSN-717) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as a member of navigation division and completed his initial submarine qualifications and first deployment to the Western Pacific.

In 1999, he reported to Naval Submarine School and completed the Electronic Support Measures maintenance pipeline which converted his specialty to Communications Electronics Technician. Following graduation, he was attached to USS Springfield (SSN-761) as a member of communications division and conducted two deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf.

In 2005, he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer and was assigned to USS Wyoming (SSBN-742)(BLUE) where he led the communications division through five Strategic Deterrent Patrols. In 2011, he was assigned to USS North Carolina (SSN-777) as Navigation Operations Department Enlisted Advisor for her maiden deployment to the Western Pacific.

His shore duty assignments include Naval Submarine School as ESM Operator “A” school Leading Petty Officer and Lead Instructor where he earned the Master Training Specialist Designation, Communications Assistant to Commander Submarine Squadron Three, where he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and Communications Assistant to Commander Submarine Squadron One following the decommission of CSS-3.

In 2012, Master Chief Steimer attended the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) and Chief of the Boat/Command Master Chief Capstone Course in Newport, Rhode Island. He reported to USS Buffalo (SSN-715) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as Chief of the Boat, overseeing the ship through a major overhaul and return to readiness status that included the first short-fused mission assignment from a homeport in over ten years. During this assignment, he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. 

In 2015, Master Chief Steimer reported to Submarine Learning Facility Norfolk as Command Master Chief.  In 2017, he terminated his shore duty assignment and reported as Command Master Chief of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE THREE SIX (VAQ-136), where he conducted one Western Pacific deployment and participated in the 2018 Rim of the Pacific exercise on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-71) as well as nine squadron detachments.

Master Chief Steimer reported as Command Master Chief of Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command (NCDOC) in August 2020.

His personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
