Commander Charles Y. Cha
Commander Cha is a native of Aurora, Colorado. In 2002, he graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics and received his commission through the Officer Candidate School. Commander Cha was designated a Naval Aviator (F/A-18C) in 2005. He holds a Master of Science degree in Space Systems Operations from the Naval Postgraduate School and he is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College.
At sea, Commander Cha served aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5), Carrier Strike Group NINE (CSG 9) aboard; USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). His assignments include serving as the Ship’s Information Warfare Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer and Flag Cryptologic Resource Coordinator. During his operational sea tours, he participated in Operation ODDYSEY DAWN, Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR, AntiPiracy Operations, and SOUTHERN SEAS/UNITAS.
Ashore, Commander Cha served at Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group, Navy Information Operations Command Hawaii; Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; as Executive Officer and Deputy Commander of Navy Information Operations Command Bahrain/Task Group 1050.2 executing EP-3E combat operations in Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Most recently, Commander Cha served as the Director of Fleet Information Operations, Integrated Fires and Cryptology (N39) at U.S. FOURTH Fleet/U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command.
Commander Cha currently serves as Executive Officer at Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command and Deputy Commander of Task Force 1020.
Commander Cha’s warfare qualifications include: Information Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer and Naval Aviator.
