Cmdr. Omar Sanchez is the Executive Officer of U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS) Naples, Italy. Cmdr. Sanchez, a native of Queens, N.Y., but Bronx-raised before his family moved to Maplewood, N.J. He received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Jacksonville University in 2001 and his Master’s in Systems Engineering Analysis from Naval Postgraduate School in 2006.
Cmdr. Sanchez’s tours have been communications related throughout his years of service. As the Communications Officer in Mayport, Fla., first on board USS Underwood (FFG 36) and then with COMDESRON TWO FOUR, he gained a tremendous amount of experience operating with Fleet communications.
Having completed three Department Head tours as a Surface Warfare Officer, Cmdr. Sanchez achieved a working knowledge of 3
rd, 7
th and 5
th Fleet operations. His first tour was as the Combat Systems Officer on board USS Gary (FFG 51) in San Diego, Calif., before transferring to COMDESRON FIVE ZERO in Bahrain as the CTF-152 N3/6. Having completed his tour in 5
th Fleet, he joined COMCARSTRKGRU ELEVEN (CCSG-11) as the Tomahawk Strike Officer on board USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in Everett, Wash.
While at CCSG-11, Cmdr. Sanchez laterally transferred into the Informational Professional community and received his Information Warfare Officer pin. His follow on tour was to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic (NCTAMS LANT) Norfolk, Va., where he assumed numerous positions within the Next Generation Enterprise Network (NGEN), Operations (N3) and Plans / Projects Departments (N5). His most recent tour was as the FLTCYBERCOM Cyber Operations – Integrated Planning Element Defensive Cyber Operations Lead supporting INDOPACOM operations.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various other campaign, service and unit awards.
