Welcome


The Communications Security Material Issuing Office (CMIO) supports maritime operations through the distribution of COMSEC equipment and related COMSEC material and performs the following functions:

  • Stores obsolete equipment until proper disposition had been developed

  • ​Demilitarizes and destroys obsolete COMSEC equipment

  • Performs the daily review of distribution orders from NCMS, unclassified messages, and emails to comply COMSEC equipment receipt and issuance as directed

  • Receives and maintains the complete allowance of COMSEC equipment authorized for storage and distribution

  • Receives, verifies, stores, ships, and disposes of COMSEC equipment

  • Serves as the designated PKI long term archival facility for class III and IV certificates and the issuing officer/CMS custodian for all CMS accounts charged to the detachment

  • Responsible for supervising the shipping, receiving, inventory, and destruction of COMSEC equipment

  • Ensures the accuracy of the Common Tier-1 (CT1) system on the Physical Handling Material System (PHMS) account, seven Vault Distribution Logistic System accounts, and the Commercial Asset Visibility (CAV) database; these systems contain the listing of over 50,000 equipment items, enabling responsible personnel to quickly determine the location, status, and shipping instructions
