About Us
In June 2018, the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Professional Development Center, an echelon IV command subordinate to Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, became Information Warfare Training Group – Gulfport (IWTG-G). IWTG-G is now an echelon V command within the Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) training enterprise with sister ITWGs in Norfolk and San Diego (IWTG-N/SD).
Consequent to this organizational re-alignment was an inherent understanding that the command’s scope of mission, functions, and tasks would evolve from Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) community – centric to the broader Information Warfare (IW) domain. IWTG commands provide the fleet with the highest quality training in the fields of cyber, electronic warfare, cryptology, intelligence, and meteorology and oceanography to support the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP) and forward-deployed naval forces in Japan. To this end, IWTG Gulfport has detachments and team training in Norfolk, San Diego, and Yokosuka; providing functional type training to the Fleet that is ready, relevant, responsive, and unbound by geographical restraints.
